This was painted in a prolific high-energy period, caused perhaps in part, by a full recovery from a serious illness the previous summer, a time, oddly enough, when artists sometimes flourish. I was alone for awhile in an A-frame cabin whose huge windows opened onto an ice-covered lake framed with snow-laden trees. The flames in the fire were hypnotizing.
